Canyon helicopter tours depart from Las Vegas, NV, and Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, AZ, the small town located 10 minutes South Rim doors. There's no helicopter direct from Las Vegas South Rim tour. To do this, you need to first take a plane or a bus and then transfer them to a helicopter.
But what rim is the best? The western edge is a good choice if you want an adventurous trip. Specifically, I refer to the landing of the guided tours that allow you to add either a helicopter ride down, a cruise boat on the Colorado River or a walk on the Grand Canyon Skywalk, the glass bridge that allows you to walk 70 feet beyond the edge.
On the other hand, the South Rim is nicknamed the Grand Canyon official and is worth visiting also. It is located some 270 km from Las Vegas and is popular with travellers, based in central Arizona. Helicopters are not allowed to go below the rim or landing at the bottom. However, that is easily corrected when traveling through the corridor Dragoon, the deeper and wider national park section.
Weather West Rim is hot during the summer, with temperatures break 100 degrees almost every day. You must bring a lot of water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat to protect against heat and Sun. I also suggest you wear a shirt with long sleeves and a pair of shoes of race as the terrain is Rocky. Winters are cooler and relatively mild. It is a good idea to wear gloves, a hat and a medium weight jacket to stay warm.
South Rim summers are temperate and pleasant. The reason for the difference is that the elevation here is more than 6,000 feet. You should always bring along sunscreen and plenty of drinking water. South Rim winters are much more extreme. The temperatures drop much lower and there is more snow. That said, winter is one of the best times of year to visit South Rim, because you will have little near the Park to yourself.
The season of the year and the weather, with Rim you choose will determine when to take your helicopter tour. During the summer, I recommend to go on which flights early in the morning. This would include any travel departing before lunch time. In addition, if you take a western edge Tower landing, by all means leave as soon as possible in order to beat the heat. Another reason to go early in the course of the summer is the rainy season, which runs from July to September. The rainy season brings a lot of storms. Storms develop almost every afternoon just like clockwork. If you book your Grand Canyon tour helicopter during that period of time, the odds are good, it will get delayed until the storm passes, or it could get cancelled altogether.
There are other important aspects of the morning flights. On the one hand, morning air is smoother and by afternoon, turbulence begins to build. In addition, the visibility is much better also. Once again, during the summer, there is a mist in the air. Pollution, dust and forest fires cause this. A benefit for the mist and particles suspended in the air, it is that it creates magnificent sunsets, which allows to take for another nice time to fly.
But don't panic if you cannot book a tour by helicopter in the morning. A morning tour can be a little better, but no matter what time you go, it will be an incredible experience. Once you are in the air and looking down on the Majesty of the Grand Canyon, you will appreciate its beauty no matter what time it is.
