Surprise Her with a Grand Canyon Airplane Trip for Mother's Day (Tracy Delvecchio)

If you're looking for something special to do this Mother's Day, consider one of the great Grand Canyon airplane tours that are available. Whether you pick a landing tour or an air-only version, you're all sure to have a great time!

Grand Canyon airplane tours take off from airfields surrounding Las Vegas, Nevada, and also from the Grand Canyon National Park Airport in Tusayan, AZ. If you begin your trip from a city in Arizona, you have to go to the South Rim, but if you depart from Vegas you can go to the South Rim or the West Rim.

Can you imagine a better way to celebrate Mom's holiday than to go to Vegas and hop on a plane to the Grand Canyon? But first, you need to figure out which rim you will visit.

If your mother loves natural beauty, take her to the South Rim ? a lot of people consider it the real Grand Canyon. If your Mom is the adventurous sort and loves a few thrills, then you should take her to the West Rim.

Flights To The West Rim

On your way to the West Rim from Las Vegas, you see other interesting sights from the air such as the scenic Lake Mead and huge Hoover Dam. The air-only plane tours give you a bird's eye view of all the notable highlights along the western rim of the canyon, including the Grand Canyon Skywalk. You can choose a landing tour instead and they are great fun. With a landing tour, you can add several thrilling side excursions.

One great option to consider is including a VIP pass to the Skywalk so your Mom can walk out on the glass bridge. That's where she'll be able to walk 70 feet past the rim's edge and stand 4,000 feet directly above the canyon's bottom. It is a once in a lifetime experience!

Your Mom would also enjoy hopping on a helicopter and descending to the floor of the canyon. The West Rim is the only place you can do this (South Rim regulations prohibit flying below the level of the rim), and it's a truly unique experience. The flight is spectacular but the experience is even better when you add on a rafting trip down the smooth waters of the Colorado River.

South Rim Airplane Tours

Tours to the South Rim from Vegas depart two to three times daily. You will get there in about an hour. South Rim air tours include a bus tour through the National Park that takes about two hours and you can add on a helicopter flight too.

The 50-minute helicopter flight is a good option because it lets you see the East, South, and North Rims of the canyon in a single tour. As a matter of fact, that tour covers almost 3/4 of the entire Grand Canyon National Park.

Something else you can add on to your South Rim tour is a Jeep ride through the Antelope Canyon where you Mom can see some amazing rock formations. The trip ends with a real flourish ? a smooth-water rafting tour down the Colorado! What a great way to celebrate the day with your Mom!
